Jyi’s Prospect

Jyi’s Prospect (2001)

The recently retired Jyi’s Prospect is not a name that might immediately spring to mind. In fact, you may never have heard of this chestnut son of Lion Cavern at all. I could immediately tell you that by virtue of being a son of our great producer, Amberlene, he is a half-brother to the G3 winner Throne Inn, and the stakes-placed Reverenza. But Jyi’s Prospect deserves recognition not just for his relationship to blacktype, but significantly for his own special prowess – for Jyi’s Prospect was an old fashioned iron horse.

In a race career spanning across 9 years and a mammoth 144 starts, Jyi’s Prospect won 23 races and was placed on 42 occasions – with very respectable prize-money earnings in excess of $181,000.  For most of his career Jyi’s Prospect campaigned around the Rockhampton region, though he did win at both South Coast and Gold Coast, and was often seen (placed) at Eagle Farm and Doomben.

Most often the glory goes (and rightly so) to a racetrack shooting star – brilliance displayed across a blinding few (two or three) seasons of success. But sometimes some applause and credit must be given to the hard-as-nails racehorse who lives and breathes for his moment on the racetrack.

Jyi’s Prospect, take your bow.
